Human State-Aware Robotics
(H-STAR)

From Multimodal Data to Human-Adaptive Behavior in HRI

24 August 2026 (tentative)
Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan

We are pleased to invite contributions to the H-STAR Workshop at IEEE RO-MAN 2026 — a full-day interdisciplinary event bringing together researchers, practitioners, and students to advance the science and engineering of human state-aware robotic systems. The workshop covers the full pipeline: from multimodal data collection and human state estimation, through learning and modeling, to real-time adaptive robot behavior.

Multimodal sensing — gaze, speech, motion & physiological signals
Human state estimation — engagement, stress, fatigue & mind wandering
Adaptive learning — RL, imitation & LLM-based interaction policies
Online adaptation — real-time & human-in-the-loop systems
Trustworthy robotics — calibration, transparency & human agency
Ethics & privacy — biosignals, consent & data governance
Data challenges — alignment, bias & robustness
Applications — social robots, teleoperation, assistive & safety-critical HRI

Format
Extended abstract, 2–4 pages
Submission deadline
29 June 2026
Notification date
20 July 2026
Outstanding poster awards — accepted posters include a 1-minute lightning talk video promoted on social media. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded at the workshop.
